vinyl kitchen floor strata

The kitchen floor was yet another archaeological dig.  The top layer was rolled linoleum.  The tasteful turquoise and sand vinyl tile checkerboard in the picture above is what we thought was the bottom layer.  In between there is at least one layer of vinyl tile, the same as what we've been ripping out of every other room.

Under the checkerboard there's at least one layer of something else (the mottled yellow/brown square in the middle). I'm guessing this is just an underlayer, and the checkerboard is original.

Bedroom Drywall

I studied at the tenants-covering-their-tracks school of drywalling.  If you look closely, it shows in places.

That color looks better in person in the right light, trust me.

Drywall Alternative

There's one wall of that horrible paneling remaining in the third bedroom.

Here's an attempt I made to cover it up by roughing it up, filling it in, priming it, and then painting it (in the eventual color of the bathroom walls).  It doesn't look too bad methinks.  (But I've already drywalled over it as I post...)

Hideous Windows

Kitchen.  I like unpainted wood but these are just too narrow.

I'm told it's a "box beam".  This is the master bedroom.  The pink wall was covered by that horrible 70s fake wood paneling.
